Hon’ble Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Tourism invited his counterpart in Peru to the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) meet scheduled to be held on 6th, 7th & 8th of September, 2015 in Bengaluru. He mentioned that PATA meet is one of the three biggest meets in the Tourism sector where buyers and sellers of tourism products assemble and forge agreements for tourism promotion and the meet is expected to have participation of about 1000 delegates from across the globe. With this background, Hon’ble Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Tourism has requested Her Excellency Ms. Magali Silva Velarde, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism to be the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the PATA conference to be held on 6th September, 2015 in Bengaluru.

Further, Hon’ble Minister informed Her Excellency that Karnataka has the privilege of being the home to three World Heritage Sites – the ruins of Hampi, the temple complex of Pattadakal and the forests of Western Ghats. The ruins of Hampi are quite comparable to the World Heritage site of “Machhu Pichhu” in terms of their heritage, their history and above all in their grandeur. Both these are UNESCO World Heritage sites. He proposed that both Government would declare that these two Heritage monuments could associate and collaborate to work together on heritage conservation and tourism promotion, and become “Sister Heritage Sites”. He told that such a declaration would suggest the tourists visiting any one of these monuments to study and visit the other. Both could even develop joint publicity material to generate more interest among the tourists and even researchers in the field. Such a declaration would also help us to learn from the best practices of each other and promote these two tourist destinations with many commonalities.

Her Excellency, Ms. Magali Silva Velarde, was happy to receive this idea of “Sister Heritage Sites” concept proposed by the Hon’ble Minister, and suggested Hon’ble Minister to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to give effect to the concept of “Sister Heritage Sites” for mutual benefit and cooperation. The Secretary, Tourism Department and Director of Tourism Department of Government of Peru were present during the meeting.
