Importantly, the AVGC pie in the Media and Entertainment industry of India has consistently grown, nearly doubling in its value and increasing its share from 3.7% in 2008 to 6.4% in 2014 - expected to reach 7.3% by 2018.

Indian animation, VFX and post production market has grown 20% in 2 years from INR 4,200 crore (USD 0.7 bn) in 2013. The gaming sector remains on top and its bullish trend is a driving force for the sector.

Its 60 campuses with 2000 working professionals and another 20 training institutes with the 10k student are geared to meet the expected 4 times increase in employment in the next 5 years.

Bangalore based companies have contributed to Academy Award winning movies like ‘Life of Pi’ Prometheus, Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 1, Skyfall -007, Sherlock Holmes- A game of shadows, and Pirate of the Caribbean’s –on Stanger Tides. These internationally popular cinemas have helped it be a focus sector here in India too.

Government of Karnataka has begun 3 strong Initiatives for Skill Development in association with ABAI -The Association of Bangalore Animation Industries. These include Train the Trainer: A program to enhance effectiveness & productivity of the talent pool in the AVGC industry. They offer free 3D animation training to individuals with placement assistance extended on completion of TTT programme.

Digital Art Centres: 7 Fine Arts colleges being assisted in Phase I with more to be covered in subsequent phases; all in a bid to make Karnataka digital learning destination and Finishing School’s to create industry-ready workforce by Skill enhancement of fresh graduates with industry internship & apprenticeship.

The drive is evident with the state government announcing an exclusive policy for the sector – first ever in India. AVGC sector in the state is eligible to avail fiscal incentives and concessions under KAVGC Policy 2012, Industrial Policy 2014-19, IT Policy 2014 and Start-up Policy 2015-2020. It entails special Anchor Unit Subsidy for the first two manufacturing enterprises and unique package of concessions for Mega Projects in this sector

With an objective to make Karnataka the most favoured destination for AVGC, it encourages and support the development of Manpower, infrastructure, and business to catalyse the industry’s growth.

The state government has proposed to set up “CENTER OF EXCELLENCE� with state-of-the- art facilities along with multiple AVGC parks on SEZ models.

Promotional programs like Annual international industry fests to enhance networking and mentoring opportunities along with Outreach programs for schools and colleges for generating awareness are on the anvil.

- KAVGC Parks : Land earmarked for AVGC industry in the proposed ITIR near Kempegowda International Airport and in existing Devanhalli IT Park
- Digital Media City project – A US$100 million project spread across the 10-acre land with 5 lakh Sq. ft. State of the art dedicated plug and play core media facilities across the value chain to attract relevant support and ancillary services and create an eco-system well differentiated by the strong ICT back-end globally
- Digital Post Production AVGC Lab – a proposed government project with approximate cost of US$ 5 million project to partner with Global leaders in the field of Media and IT services on PPP (DBOO) basis
- Develop Fine arts colleges as Digital Arts Centre’s (DACs) to provide training for career in digital art and animation industry
- Finishing School to be set up in partnership with industry players like Technicolor, MPC, DreamWorks who have already expressed their interest to partner and churn out best talent through apprenticeship
