Chikkaballapur

Chikkaballapur is a newly carved district out of Kolar in the southern part of the state, which has the potential to be a Greater Bengaluru. Chikkaballapur is the commercial hub for the silk industry. It’s the second-largest district practising sericulture with the average cocoon production higher than the state average. The region is also known for the variety of fruits and vegetables that it produces, including grapes, mango, pomegranate, tomato, potato, carrot and brinjal. There is ample scope here for poultry and meat production along with agriculture and allied activities like horticulture nurseries.

Land

Chikkaballapur has 12% of land as forest cover, 33% uncultivable land and 3% remaining land. A net 52% of the land is used for cultivation. The soil is suitable for different crops with varied agro-climatic conditions. Land Bank Area: 437.6 acres

Water

Chikkaballapur has three rivers – Papagni, Chitravathi and Pinakini, which mainly supply water to the region.

Power

BESCOM or Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited is handling power transmission to the district of Chikkaballapur. Power generation is underway through various agencies like NTPC, KPCL etc. Average demand for power in the district for industrial purposes is 162.8 MU and for domestic purposes is 106.30 MU.

Natural Resources

The district has natural reserves of white quartz minerals.

Human Resources

Premier institutes like the Visvesvaraya Institute of Advanced Technology and National Skill Development Institute proposed at Muddenhalli, and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Gowribidanur, are set to enhance the skilled manpower in the region.

Connectivity

The district has easy access to three international airports and two domestic airports. By road, it has accesses across National Highway NH7 and NH 234 with a rail route connecting it to all major cities. The Mangaluru (Mangalore) Karwar, Goa and Chennai seaports provide sea route access.
