The Government of Karnataka is proud to be the first state to announce the establishment of a dedicated Startup Cell. The Karnataka Startup Cell aims to promote Karnataka as the ultimate startup destination in the world. Its vision is to create a world-class startup ecosystem through strategic investment and policy interventions; leveraging the state's innovative ambience.

Process

Incorporate your startup as Pvt Ltd/ Register as a Partnership Firm/ LLP/OPC

Visit Startup Karnataka Portal and sign up as a Startup
startup.karnataka.gov.in

Activate the link sent to your email address, and create a user ID and password.

Login to the portal using the user credentials and click on the registration tab in the dashboard. Fill in the required details and submit.

Now sit back and relax. The Startup Karnataka team will process your application.

Startup Karnataka - Fostering Innovation

  • 20,000 technology-based startups, including 6,000 product startups by 2020.
  • 6 lakh direct and 12 lakh indirect new jobs in the sector.
  • Mobilizing INR 2000 crores (USD 333 million) funding for startups by leveraging the Fund of Funds.
  • Focus on the generation of 25 innovative technology solutions with social relevance.

  • Set up a Society or Section 8 company.
  • Equipment and viability gap funding.
  • Industry-academia connect and project funding.
Encouraging entrepreneurship in education
  • Support given to professional and postgraduate colleges in tier-II and tier-III cities for setting up the incubators.
  • 10 student projects funded in each partner institute.
  • Mentor connects provided for student projects.
Channelizing innovation for social impact
  • 5 challenges will be announced every year.
  • Initial and follow on funding will be given based on achievement of milestones.
  • Pilots will be implemented through departments.
  • Winners will be provided with incubation space on a preferential basis.
Promoting capacity building through exposure visits and workshops
  • Join the Karnataka Startup Cell at global conferences to expand your markets.
  • Meet incoming trade delegations and foreign investors with the Cell.
Providing early-stage idea to Proof-of-concept Funding
  • Grants up to INR 50 lakhs.
  • Validation of proof-of-concept.
  • Virtual incubation.
Creating incubation infrastructure through Public-private partnership
  • Selection of partners will happen through RFPs or with industry associations.
  • Infrastructure support, mentoring, legal and accounting services will be offered to incubatees.
  • Partners will help implement incentives and benefits to startups.
Startup funding through Fund of Funds
  • A fund manager will be selected.
  • The investment committee will consist of experts from industry and academia.
  • The fund will focus exclusively on startups.
Providing state support in the form of initiatives and concessions
  • Collect reimbursement of VAT and CST for early-stage startups.
  • Collect reimbursements on patent spends for both domestic and foreign filings.
  • Collect reimbursement on marketing expenditure up to 30% of the cost incurred subject to INR 5 lakhs, per startup, annually.
  • 10% reservation for women in seats of partner incubators.
  • Self- certification under various enactments.
